Expertise and activities

Knut Stenert advises companies and founders in all areas of copyright and media law as well as intellectual property, and he also specialises in employment law and the development of compliance strategies. He provides advice both in and out of court.

Knut Stenert supports companies in implementing their business ideas in a legally compliant manner and, in the event of a dispute, in defending their business against competitors and/or supervisory and law enforcement authorities. He also advises his clients on developing legally sound and fair workforce structures, as well as on employment and social security law matters.

Career

Knut Stenert studied law in Münster, specialising in employment law and intellectual property/copyright law. Following his studies, he completed additional training in intellectual property at the ITM (Institute for Information, Telecommunications and Media Law) of the University of Münster (Westfälische Wilhelms-Universität). Alongside this, Knut Stenert was active as a freelance musician, with releases on various music labels.

He completed his legal clerkship (Referendariat) in Münster, Ibbenbüren and Berlin (at the GVL – the German collecting society for neighbouring rights, Gesellschaft zur Verwertung von Leistungsschutzrechten).

Knut Stenert has been admitted to the bar in Hamburg since 2007, where, until 2016, he worked at an internationally active Hamburg law firm in copyright and media law, intellectual property and commercial criminal law. He advised companies and associations, in particular from the music publishing and film industries, and conducted civil and criminal court proceedings for his clients before the specialised chambers nationwide.

He subsequently spent two years working in-house as corporate counsel (Syndikus-Rechtsanwalt) in the legal and contracts department of a Hamburg book publishing group.

After that, Knut Stenert worked at an internationally active, commercial law-focused firm in Hamburg – primarily in employment law, compliance advisory, IP law, data protection law and general commercial law.

Knut Stenert has been working for SBS LEGAL since November 2020.
